Guest lecture Simon Weldon: 3

Whilst listening to Simon talk about his work and seeing the images that he had taken it made me think about my own project, they way that I wanted my images to tell a story and mean something and the way Simon had developed the project form achieves of his fathers work to make it not only his own but a collaboration with his father. Even though his father had died you can still see his presence in the images that Simon had taken, this was because Simon made this project off images he found that his father had taken even though Simon was a photographer in is own right but finishing off a project started by his father images. You could also see the way Simon showed his own personal story through his images, every image has it own personal story, even though you look at the images and may not know what the story is you know that it is personal to the Photographer.

In my own practice and the project ‘Cutie’ that I am undertaking for my final project for university, I want to be able to show parts of my sister disability but also show parts of her that show the relationship we have as a family and that just because she has a disability does not mean that she is not happy and lives life to the fullest. Even though Simon’s Project ‘Loiner’ is different to mine does not mean that I can not look at his work and take things I like and adapt them to my own project. Simons work is documentary photography which is what kind of photography I am doing, to do my work at its best I have to be able to look at different photographers work and look at how I can make my project better. After the Simon’s talk I was really impressed with his work and the way he talked about his project, so I emailed Simon and asked if he could take a look at my project and give me some feed back.
