Guest lecture Francis Augusto: 2

While Francis did his talk and showed us his work, he talked to us about the fact he did not think there was enough diversity in the industry, there is not enough women or people of colour, this has made him take a stand and with his own work he hires a team that are well diverse around him. Francis hopes this can make a difference and help other photographers or people in the industry look at making the industry more diverse. Francis also talked about that fact that he has suffered with mental health issue and in the past has found it hard to find the motivation to do things, but he has found a way to work through this over time. He said that he always has continuous plans in place if he wakes up feeling like this and he has a shoot to go to, he makes sure he lets his team know how he is feeling, he will have thinks he likes on shoot like organic orange juice with bits. Mentally he tells himself that he can do this, he finds mediation and breathing techniques useful. At the beginning of the talk Francis said that talking in public or video call to a large group of people was never an easy thing for him to do, he had always been nervous in these situations. However, he realised that other speakers he had seen previously, had helped him along his journey and felt that telling people about his own work would hopefully give people the passion to follow their own dreams. To me Francis did not seem nervous and the way he presented himself and his work had me hooked the whole way trough the talk and was one of the best talks I had seen.
