Guest lecture Francis Augusto: 1

This week our guest lecture was Francis Augusto, who is a photographer living in London. Francis was born in Mongowla in 1993 and moved to England at a young age. While growing up in London Francis got into trouble with the police, he was hanging around with the wrong people and ended up going to a youth group, which he thanked for turning his life around. From this he went on to work as a youth worker and then a senior mentor. In 2016 Francis left his job to purse a career in photography, he first started working in event photography, where he learnt to take images in real time and at a fast pace, which he shot with a 35mm lens. At the beginning of 2020 Francis switched from digital camera to film, he has never shot in film before so this was a new experience for him, he showed us the images he had shot for the first time in film and in my opinion he was already a professional shooting in film. Francis has a documentary style approach to taking images, he has travelled the world taking images, but he also works with models and describes working with models as a processes in which you have to make the person you are photo-shooting feel comfortable. Francis explained to make the subject feel comfortable, find something you have in common with the subject and ask them how they are doing, compliment them, this can work with people you have not previously work with.
