Rinko Kawauchi

Rinko Kawauchi is a Japanese photographer born in 1972 and studied at Seian University of Art and Design which was an ex seian women’s College . Rinko lives and work in Tokyo. Whilst on a 1to1 chat with one of my tutors Dr Yan Wang Preston, she mentioned Rinko’s work to show a possible route I could go down with my project. At the time the project was called ‘obstacles’ and concentrated more on my sister’s disability than the relationship we have with her as a family. Yan’s idea was to move away from focusing on just the disability side of things but to include the personal side too, which would be the relationship we have with each other and the objects that could also link that. While Looking at Rinko’s work I found a project she had done called ‘Cui Cui, which she did in 2005. Cui Cui was a documentary projected, centred around Rinko’s family. Rinko’ss work really spoke to me and helped me development my own work into completely new direction.
