Guest lecture Thomas Duffield: 2

Thomas still wanted to take photographs of his dad but in a different way, he did this by focusing on other members of his family, which included his mum, grandad and sister. Growing up Thomas’s grandad was his father figure and his grandad and grandma’s home was his safe space. This led Thomas to another project ‘Just couldn’t get the shoes to fit’ that was about his grandad. In these images Thomas shared jackets with his grandad and took shots of them, in them and then switched the jacket around; he used a white background so that it did not take the focus from them. Thomas realised that as he was getting older so was his grandad and this had changed the relationship between them; when Thomas was younger his grandad was the care giver but that had changed to where Thomas was now the care giver to his grandad.
