The confusion and where it led me
The next morning I woke up, pick up my camera and went around the house photographing objects that linked, starting with my own mental health and disability and ending with my sister’s disability. The next step was to look through the images and show them in class to receive feedback. After my face-to-face session, I had 3 different paths I could go down, mental health, my own disability and my sister’s disability. I decided the best option would be to focus on my sister’s disability, as there were more areas to go down and with the current Covid19 restrictions, this would put less pressure on me to produce work, as the project is right in front of me and in my daily life. My project is centred around my sister, who is 18 and has quadriplegic cerebral palsy. This is a condition she was born with and has never know any different, she also has a learning disability and epilepsy which is controlled with medication. My sister needs help with everyday life, this ranges from getting her dressed, changing her pads, putting her in her wheelchair, giving her medication and been tube fed. However, with all her medical and care needs and being in pain most days, she still wakes up with a smile on her face. As a result I wanted this project to explore the objects she needs in daily life.
