Guest Lecture Carlotta Cardana: 1
Carlotta Cardana is an editorial and commercial photographer, who came to give a guest lecture. Carlotta was born in Italy, she studied there and worked in Milan, after she finished her studies she moved to Argentina as her brother was there and helped him with his thesis. Whilst Carlotta was helping her brother she learnt how to develop a story by interviewing people on the streets and taking images. Carlotta then moved to Mexico as it was always a place she wanted to go as she loved the Latin culture, whilst she was there she also worked in editorial photography. Carlotta moved to London 10 years ago, she said that at the time she was confused about what path she was going down, so she decided to go back to shooting in film as she had switched to digital while working in Mexico. Carlotta decided she wanted to go back to her roots, she started taking images when she was out and about, which led her to the first images she had taken; this related to ‘Mod’, which is a clothing style which originated for the 1960s in London, England. Carlotta thought the mod style looked interesting and a root she continue down, she also wanted to concentrate on the relationship between couples and to shoot them in a place they felt comfortable, Carlotta was trying to capture an editorial style of photography. After a couple of years shooting this project, Carlotta realised the couples she was shooting looked like one identity. Whilst doing the project and going through the images, she had taken she also came to the realisation, that she was not happy in her own relationship and ended it.
