First Interim
For our first interim in October we had to do a group virtual exhibition, this was due to Covid-19 as we could not have an exhibition in public due to restrictions, but we still needed to display our work. At the beginning of the academic year we were put into pods of 7, as we were not allowed in University at the same time. We were asked to create this exhibition as a group and on Artsteps which is a virtual exhibition spaces. My group had to choose someone to put in charge of designing the space. As I already had made an account on Artsteps the other student asked me if I would be in charge of creating the space. I had never created a virtual exhibition before but thought it would be a great experience to do one, as we did not know what restrictions we would have in the future. The first thing I did was to look at Artsteps to see how it worked and I got the other students to send me their images and artist statements. Whilst waiting for my peers to send their images and artist statements I made a mock-up exhibition with my own images. Even though I was put in charge of creating the exhibition, this did not mean the other students were not involved. We organised a Teams meeting to go over how we wanted our space to look and what order or placement they wanted their images. After creating the exhibition we had arranged another meeting to make sure everyone was ok about the final design.
The exhibition was now published for everyone to see. When we next went into University we went through our exhibition space/design in our pods and spoke about it with one of our tutors, Yan. She went through each person’s images and asked for us to give peer feedback, this was done for learning experience, what worked? And what did not? This had to do to done, to be able to move our project forward and to see what works and does not work; as a group we received some very good feedback. At the time my project was based around mental health using my personal experience to be able to create an image that would give awareness to a sensitive subject that needs to be recognised. The project showed the emotions I feel on the inside and letting them out on the outside, using facial and body experiences. My project has since changed to Documentary due to Covid-19 restrictions.
